Who we are
WriteClimb is operated by FrostPeak Ventures LLC (Wyoming, USA). In this policy, “we” means FrostPeak Ventures LLC, and “you” means the person using the site.
What we collect
- Your email address: when you sign in. This is the only piece of personal info required to use the service.
- Previous blog email signups: if you joined the blog email list, we stored your address, the article where you signed up, the signup time and any recorded opt-out status separately from your account. New blog email signups are disabled. You can request removal using the privacy contact below.
- Essays you submit: the text you paste into the grader, plus the question you graded against and the AI’s response.
- Subscription and payment metadata: when you subscribe, our payment processor (Stripe) shares limited info with us, such as your subscription tier, status, and renewal date. We never see or store your card number.
- Technical logs: standard request logs (IP, user agent, timestamps) for debugging and abuse prevention. Retained for 30 days.
We use anonymous hosting analytics and performance metrics to count page views, understand referrers and device categories, and measure page speed. These metrics are not tied to your account, do not use cookies, and do not contain essay, prompt, or email content.
We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use the site, and Google Ads conversion tracking to measure our advertising. We do not use session-replay data for advertising, and we never send your essays, prompts, or email address to Google.
We use product analytics and privacy-masked session replay to understand where the writing and payment journeys break. Replay masks all typed inputs and visible text, and the essay editor is blocked from capture. Named events contain operational facts such as task type, word count, grading time, model version, and whether a step succeeded. They never contain essay text, prompt text, email addresses, or payment-card details.
How we use it
- To grade your essays and show you the results.
- To sign you in via magic-link email.
- To track which submissions you’ve made so we can show your history.
- To enforce subscription limits and process payments.
- To investigate abuse, debug bugs, and improve calibration.
We do not sell your data or use your essays to train any AI model. We share standard usage and conversion data with Google for analytics and ad measurement, but never your essay or prompt content.
Who else touches your data
We work with a small set of vetted third-party providers to run WriteClimb. Each only handles the data it strictly needs to perform its function:
- Our hosting provider receives anonymous page-view and performance data. It does not use cookies for these metrics or connect them across days.
- A cloud hosting and database provider stores your account, essays, and analysis results, and serves the website.
- A transactional email provider sends your magic-link sign-in emails.
- A payment processor (Stripe) handles billing and card processing. They handle your card details directly; we receive only your subscription status.
- An AI processing partner generates the band scores and feedback for each essay you submit. Per our agreement and the provider’s API terms, content submitted via their API is not used to train their models.
- An analytics and advertising provider (Google) measures site traffic and how our ads perform. It receives standard usage and conversion data, never your essay content.
- A product-analytics provider receives pseudonymous usage and funnel events and may process privacy-masked session replays. It does not receive your essay, prompt, email address, or payment-card details from us.
A current list of the specific providers we use is available on request, via the contact details below.
Cookies
Secure, HttpOnly authentication cookies keep you signed in. Google Analytics and Google Ads may also set cookies to measure traffic and advertising performance. Product analytics uses a pseudonymous browser identifier to connect steps in the same journey.
Your rights
Regardless of where you live, you can ask us to:
- Export your data: we’ll send you a JSON file of everything we hold.
- Delete your account: we’ll wipe your essays, results, and email. Payment records may be retained as required for tax/accounting (usually 7 years).
- Correct your information: email us and we’ll update it.
Email hello@writeclimb.com with subject “Privacy:” for any of the above. We respond within five business days.
Data retention
Essays and analysis results are kept indefinitely so you can review your history, until you ask us to delete them or close your account. Technical logs are deleted after 30 days.
International users
WriteClimb is operated from the United States, and our providers may process or store data in other jurisdictions. By using the service, you consent to your data being transferred to and processed in those locations.
Children
WriteClimb is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has signed up, email us and we’ll delete the account.
Changes to this policy
If we change anything material, we’ll update the “Last updated” date at the top and, for significant changes, email active users. Non-material changes (typos, clearer wording) ship without notice.
