Understanding the criterion

About Lexical Resource.

Lexical Resource considers vocabulary range and appropriate use, including meaning, style, collocation, spelling and word formation. Practise keeping a claim accurate when you paraphrase it and choosing word partnerships that fit the context. A single word choice does not establish an IELTS band; these exercises help you prepare for writing a complete response.

Do big words improve my IELTS vocabulary score?
A broad vocabulary helps when it is used appropriately. Choose words that convey your intended meaning and fit the style and context. Range, accuracy, spelling and word formation are considered across the response.
What are collocations and why do examiners care?
Collocations are conventional word partnerships, such as heavy traffic and take measures. Awareness of them helps you express ideas naturally. Learn useful phrases in context; one partnership does not separate whole-script bands on its own.
Should I paraphrase the question in my introduction?
Explain the topic and your response in your own words while keeping the original meaning. Retain necessary topic terms when they are the most accurate wording. Check qualifiers such as some, many or all before making a substitution.
